ArtWorks, The Naomi Cohain Foundation presents Express Yourself: The Traveling Art Show – featuring artwork created by children and young adults with chronic and life-threatening illnesses and their siblings. The pieces featured in this Traveling Art Show are selections from past Express Yourself events. Express Yourself is an annual creative and performing art exhibition held in New York and New Jersey to recognize children for their creative talents rather than their illnesses.
The Traveling Art Show is a unique mobile art gallery that extends the longevity of Express Yourself exhibitions by taking the art show on the road, making stops at participating hospitals, galleries, schools, libraries and other venues throughout New York and New Jersey. Year-round, the Traveling Art Show showcases the masterpieces produced by Express Yourself participants, transforming hospital lobbies, cafeterias, gift shops and other venues throughout the community into instant mini Express Yourself galleries. In addition to brightening the walls of hospitals and other venues, the Traveling Art Show serves to raise awareness of the importance of the arts in healthcare. The exhibition highlights the value of the creative process as a powerful tool for communication and healing and presents an opportunity for the children to showcase and celebrate their creative achievements. It also stimulates dialogue among healthcare providers, patients, and the larger community and captures the attention of children and families who might benefit from learning more about the ArtWorks program.
